Presented is an extremely rare near-complete set of 1940 R3 "Adventures of the Army, Navy and the Marines," consisting of 42 different cards (out of 57 in the set). This series, issued by Leader Novelty Candy Co. on the back of candy boxes, displays perforated side edges and an additional edge that had to be separated from the box by hand or scissors. The front of the candy box consisted of a header/coupon card for the relevant series: Navy(24 cards plus coupon), Army (24 cards plus coupon), or Marines (six cards plus coupon). This near set includes all three of the rare header cards, which have coupons printed on the backs that could be redeemed for prizes. The right edge of each card (the bottom edge for the header cards) is either torn or hand cut due to the aforementioned method of issue, and five cards exhibit a slight trim to a perforated edge. Without further reference to these characteristics, the condition ranges from Pr to Vg (averaging Fr-Gd). Missing the following fifteen cards for completion: #A9, N4, N8, N12, N18, N96, N98, N100, N112, N114, N118, M360, M380, M390, and M400. This is the first time we have offered a complete or near-complete set of this rare nonsports issue! Total: 42 cards.
