Complete 24-card set of 1940 R50 Goudey "First Column Defenders" trading cards plus original wax wrapper. These colorful cards were designed, according to the original wax wrapper, to "kindle a deeper sense of Patriotism by portraying the Ideals and Principles on which our Country is founded." Images of military scenes and the American flag dominate this set. Includes two black-back variations (#6 and 24). Condition is 71% Vg to Vg-Ex, 21% Gd, and 8% Pr to Fr. Condition of the wrapper is Vg-Ex. Key: #1 Raising the Flag (Vg). A rarely offered complete set of this extremely attractive and classic 1940 gum-card set. Total: 24 cards plus wrapper.
