Graded EX/NM+ 82 by SGC. Outstanding example of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the extremely rare E270-2 Colgan's Chips "Tin Tops" series. Among the most unique and distinctive cards ever produced are the various Colgan's Chips issues, beginning with the 1909-1911 E254 "Stars of the Diamond" set and concluding with the E270-2 "Tin Tops" issued a few years later. The cards are actually circular (1-7/16 inches in diameter) and were issued as inserts with Colgan's Chips products in the company's trademark round tins. E270-2 cards were inserted with Colgan's Violet or Mint Chips, as noted on the backs, which is one of the design elements that distinguishes these E270-2 "Tin Tops" cards from their more common E254 "Stars of the Diamond" counterparts. The player and team identification text on the E270-2 "Tin Tops" Ty Cobb is also clearly very different than its far more common E254 counterpart. Cobb is undoubtedly one of the keys to the ultra-rare E270-2 set. As suggested by its impressive assigned grade, the offered example is superb, with a crisp image, minimal wear on the edges, and a boldly printed reverse. This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire a fantastic high-grade example of Ty Cobb from this very rare and desirable issue. By any measure, this is one of the rarest of all Ty Cobb cards!
