Lot # 1697: 1971 Topps Tattoos Complete Sheet Set (16)

Sixteen undetached sheets of 1971 Topps Tattoos, each featuring fourteen tattoos, representing the complete set of 224 subjects. Each sheet features tattoos of players (including Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Pete Rose, and many other top stars and Hall of Famers), facsimile autographed baseballs, team pennants, and cartoon baseball figures. The sheets measure 3-3/8 x 14-1/4 inches (including the header), and include perforated tattoos in two sizes. Naturally, these are rare to find in complete-sheet form as originally issued. The sheets project an overall Excellent to Near Mint appearance, but upon close examination, scattered light wrinkles are visible on all of the paper-thin sheets. One sheet shows a smudged header panel and another displays a tear affecting only the Kansas City Royals and Amos Otis tattoo. Each sheet was packaged with one stick of bubble gum, so the back of each sheet naturally shows a light gum stain.
