Presented is a near-complete set of 1930s R109 Gum, Inc. "Pirate's Picture" consisting of seventy different cards, out of 72 in the set. Also included are twenty-three duplicates. Three cards (#9, 34, and 59) are short-printed and make completion of this set especially challenging (#9 and 34 missing). The R109 set, one of the great gum-card sets produced during the 1930s, features colorful illustrations of pirate-related scenes along with narratives on the reverse about the pirates and their adventures. Condition is 11% Vg to Vg-Ex, 19% Gd, and 70% Pr to Fr (including one trimmed). Key: #59 (Pr). Duplicates (23): #5, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 30, 31, 33, 40, 42, 43, 45, 49, 53, 56, 61, and 62. Total: 93 cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
