Lot # 678: 1932 German "Bulgaria Sports-Photos" Complete Set (272) Including Babe Ruth and Walter Hagan

Offered is a complete set of 1932 "Bulgaria Sport-Photos" series of German-issue tobacco cards featuring stars from a variety of sports (Olympic track and field, hockey, etc.). Of special note to baseball collectors is the inclusion of a card featuring New York Yankees Hall of Famer Babe Ruth (pictured with boxing legend Max Schmeling). Also included in this set is a card of golf legend Walter Hagen. Condition is 35% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 58% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 7% Gd to Vg (including a couple lesser). Keys: #219 Hagen (Fr due mostly to glue residue on reverse) and 256 Schmeling/Ruth (erasure marks on borders, otherwise Vg-Ex+). This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade complete set of this fascinating and extremely substantial foreign issue (which has been largely overlooked by American collectors and represents an extraordinary collecting value), containing several notable highlights, including the key card of Babe Ruth.
