Lot # 645: 1925-1931 W580 and W590 Collection (135) Including Bancroft, Frisch, Speaker, and Dempsey

Presented is a sizeable collection of 135 assorted cards (32 different) from the 1925-1931 W580 (103) and W590 (32) series, highlighted by nineteen Hall of Famers including Dave Bancroft, Frankie Frisch, Tris Speaker, and boxer Jack Dempsey. This series of forty-three different Major Leaguers (W590) was originally part of a larger multisport set which is catalogued as W580, and which also included movie stars, boxers, and other various athletes. This issue was originally intended to be cut apart by hand by youngsters. Condition is 36% Vg-Ex to Ex (mostly Vg-Ex), 46% Gd to Vg, and 18% lesser. The preceding grades, as well as those in the composite below, are without respect to the neatness of the cut (some cards are cut small and others display jagged or tapering cuts). This collection consists of the following: Four Aberg, four Bancroft (two Vg and two Gd), six Berlenbach, five Breitbart, four Britton, five Burnes, five Callett, seven Carpentier, four Dempsey (three Vg and Pr-Fr), five Firpo, five Frisch (three Vg and two Gd, most with crooked hand cuts), five Genaro, eight Goldstein, six Greb, three Bucky Harris (two Vg and Gd), three Travis Jackson (Vg-Ex, Vg, and Gd), Langdon, five Lenglen, four Leonard, two Lewis, two McGill, six McTigue, five Mollory, Ross, Ryan, seven E. Smith, four Speaker (three Gd and one Fr, all with uneven left edges), six Stock, six Terris, Turpin, Weismuller (Fr), and four Wills. Total: 135 cards.
