Lot # 674: 1931 W517 SGC-Graded Collection (12) Including Lefty Grove and Rogers Hornsby

Collection of twelve different 1931 W517 strip cards including eight Hall of Famers, each professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC. The popular W517 large-style strip card (3 x 4 inches) set consists of fifty-four Major Leaguers of which fifty-two players are different. Ruth and Cochrane each appear twice (#4 Ruth features a portrait; #20 Ruth features a throwing pose). This issue was originally sold in vertical strips of three, which were intended to be hand-cut by youngsters. Cards from this set are often in somewhat rough condition (miscut, creases, back damage, etc.) SGC Grading Composite: VG 3 (7 cards): #10 Klein (HOF), 18, 19 Cuyler (HOF), 32, 39 Grove (HOF), 42 Wilson (HOF), and 53. GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): #3 Roush (HOF). POOR 1 (3 cards): #24 Lindstrom (HOF), 29a Hafey/Cardinals (HOF), and 38 Hornsby (HOF). Authentic (1 card): #7 (min size not met). This is a very appealing group of cards, which includes a particularly high concentration of Hall of Famers. Total: 12 cards.
