Description

Hall of Fame black-and-white postcards were only produced between the years 1944 and 1963, during which time a total of ninety-five different players were issued. Two companies manufactured the cards for the Hall of Fame over that twenty-year span: Albertype (1944-1952) and Artvue (1953-1963). Offered here are forty-two Artvue cards and forty-three Albertype cards. This collection consists of the following: 1) Artvue Type 1 (29 cards): 51% Ex to Ex-Mt and 49% Vg to Vg-Ex (including one lesser). Includes the following: Anson, Bender, Bresnahan, two Brown, Bulkeley, Burkett, Chadwick, two Chance, two Chesbro, Clarke, two Cobb, Cochrane, Comiskey, Hubbell, Klem, Mack, Maranville, McGinnity, two Ott, Sisler, Speaker, Tinker, Waddell, and Young. 2) Artvue Type 2 (13 cards): Two Nr/Mt, seven Ex to Ex-Mt, three Vg to Vg-Ex, and one lesser. Includes the following: Bender, Bulkeley, Chesbro, J. Collins, Comiskey, Jennings, B. Johnson, Keller, McCarthy, Radbourne, W. Robinson, G. Wright, and H. Wright. 3) Albertype Type 1 (7 cards): Ex+, five Vg to Vg-Ex, and pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex. Includes the following: Cobb, B. Johnson, Keller, two Mathewson, W. Robinson, and Sisler. 4) Albertype Type 2 (36 cards): 41% Ex to Ex-Mt and 59% Vg to Vg-Ex. Includes the following: Two Bresnahan, two Brouthers, Burkett, two Cartwright, Chance, Cochrane, J. Collins, two E. Collins, Cummings, Delahanty, two Evers, Ewing, Frisch, Grove, Heilmann, Hornsby, Kelly, Lajoie, Landis, Mack, McGraw, three Pennock, Plank, two Spalding, Tinker, Traynor, Wagner, and Young. These B&W Hall of Fame postcards have always been prized as special by autograph collectors, but are just being discovered by card collectors and appreciated for their scarcity and their significance as an official Hall of Fame card set produced specifically for sale as souvenirs at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Total: 85 postcards.
