Lot # 3229: 1939-1946 W462 Salutation Exhibits and 1947-1966 Exhibits Collection (57) Including Ted Williams, Bob Feller, and Hank Greenberg

Presented is a collection of fifty-seven assorted Exhibits cards from two different series, spanning the years 1939 to 1966 and highlighted by seventeen Hall of Famers, including Ted Williams, Bob Feller, and Hank Greenberg. Exhibits cards were traditionally sold for one penny each from vending machines placed at arcades and amusement parks for more than four decades (from 1921 to the 1960s). Each card in this collection (except for the W462 Ted Williams) displays a small pencil notation or number written on the reverse. Without further respect to the pencil marks, the condition is 36% Ex to Ex-Mt, 34% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 30% lesser (mostly Pr due to tape and paper loss, and including six that also show a slight trim). We have selected four cards to be professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1939-1946 W462 Salutation Exhibits (29 cards): Appling/made in USA left, Boudreau, Camilli, Cavarretta, Dickey/made in USA left (GOOD+ 2.5), Elliott, Feller/pitching (GOOD+ 2.5), Feller/portrait (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex+), Gordon/Cleveland, Greenberg/very truly yours (GOOD+ 2.5), Hassett, Heath/large, Higbe, Hubbell (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), Keller/made in USA left, Lee, Lombardi/cordially yours, May, McCormick/made in USA right, Medwick (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), Mize/made in USA left (pencil on reverse, otherwise Pr), Louis (Buck) Newsom, Reiser/made in USA right, Russell, Vaughn, Walker/"D" on cap, Warneke, Williams/#9 not showing (EX 5), and York. 2) 1947-1966 Exhibits (28 cards): Bearden, Blackwell/pitching, D. DiMaggio, Dobson, Doerr/an exhibit card lower left, Evans, Haas, two Henrich, Hopp, three Kinder, three Kiner, McCaskey, Mitchell, Northey, Pesky, Sauer, three Stephens/batting, Torgeson/Braves uniform, Wakefield, Wehmeier, and Wright. In our opinion, Exhibits cards in general represent a particularly outstanding collecting value. This is a very presentable lower-grade collection. Total: 57 cards.
