Description

Graded VG/EX 4 by SGC. Classic example of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig from the Salutation Exhibits set. These unnumbered cards are not dated and were issued over a series of years, and they are generally collected as a single set. Some cards in this Exhibit-card series were issued for numerous years, while other players were issued for only a short period of time, creating many rarities. Gehrig is one of the players who fall into the latter category, unfortunately, as his debilitating disease ended his prolific baseball career in April 1939, right as this set was issued (Gehrig succumbed to his disease in 1941 at the age of 37). This makes the offered card the final card ever issued of Lou Gehrig as a player. The card has a crisp image with a clean facsimile signature ("Sincerely, Lou Gehrig"). Downgraded due to light-to-moderate corner and edge wear.
