Lot # 1361: 1950-1956 Callahan Hall of Fame Near-Complete Set (65/82) Plus Original Box

Presented is a very attractive Callahan Hall of Fame near-complete set (65 out of 82), together with the original box. Issued annually from 1950 to 1956, the Callahan Hall of Fame card set was the official set of the Hall of Fame. It was updated each year until 1956 with the inductees from that year as well as some corrections and updates. The end result is an 82-card basic set and a 91-card master set (including nine cards with two variations). The cards released in the later years of the set are very rare. This near-complete basic set is missing the following seventeen cards for completion: Baker, Barrow, Bender, Chandler, Connolly, Dickey, DiMaggio, Hartnett, Klem, Lyons, Maranville, Schalk, Terry, Vance, Waddell, Wallace, and H. Wright. Condition is 49% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt and 51% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a couple lesser and a couple that measure small). Keys: Cobb (Ex), Gehrig (Nr/Mt+), Johnson (Nr/Mt), Mathewson (Fr-Gd due tiny tear of top edge), Ruth (Nr/Mt+), and Wagner (Ex-Mt+). The original box is in modest condition due to pen writing, tape, and small spots of paper loss. This is an outstanding mid- to high-grade near-complete set of one of card collecting's most overlooked 1950s issues. Total: 65 cards plus box.
