Lot # 2790: 1889 H600 J. D. Larkin "Presidents" SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (19/23)

Near-complete set of nineteen cards (out of twenty-three) featuring various U.S. Presidents from the 1889 H600 J. D. Larkin series. This colorful set of cards features a portrait of each President above a facsimile signature and an advertisement for "Sweet Home" soap, Larkin's primary product. Each card has been professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC. Missing the following four cards for completion: Monroe, Johnson, Grant, and B. Harrison. SGC Grading Composite: EX 60 (4 cards): Arthur, Buchanan, Pierce, and Polk. VG/EX 50 (7 cards): John Adams, Hayes, Jackson, Jefferson, Taylor, Tyler, and Van Buren. VG 40 (6 cards): John Q Adams, Cleveland, Garfield, Madison, Washington, and Filmore. GOOD 30 (2 cards): W. Harrison and Lincoln. Sets featuring all U.S. Presidents to date have always been very popular with card manufacturers (including Topps, Bowman, U.S. Caramel etc.), although most card sets of this type date from more recent years than this 1889 issue. This is a very attractive and rare near-complete set of this nineteenth-century nonsport "Presidents" set. Total: 19 cards.
