Description

This exceptional team-signed ball features the black fountain pen signatures of 24 members of the 1925 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates, including Hall of Famers Fred Clarke (coach), Max Carey, Pie Traynor, Bill McKechnie (Mgr., sweet spot), and Kiki Cuyler. The signature of baseball commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis also appears on a side panel. The remaining team signatures adorning the Official American League baseball (Johnson) are those of Clyde Barnhart (sweet spot), Red Oldham (sweet spot), Roy Spencer, Glenn Wright, John Gooch, Emil Yde, Lee Meadows, Ray Kremer, Vic Aldridge, Johnny Rawlings, Babe Adams, George Grantham, Stuffy McInnis, Carson Bigbee, Earl Smith, Eddie Moore, Bill Hinchman (coach), and John Morrison. The black-ink notation "Worlds Champs 1925" appears on a side panel. All of the signatures remain clearly legible. The presence of Landis' signature, along with the fact that this is an American League ball, strongly suggests that this ball was most likely signed at the 1925 World Series. The Pirates defeated the Washington Senators in seven games, capturing their second World Championship in franchise history. Team-signed balls of championship clubs from the 1920s are extremely rare, especially those in high-grade condition, as offered here. All of the manufacturer's stampings are bold and legible, and the lightly toned ball has been coated with a very thin layer of protective shellac. In Excellent to Mint condition. This is an outstanding example and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Pittsburgh Pirates or team-signed ball collection. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
