Description

One-page typed letter, dated September 15, 1939, signed by Kenesaw Landis in his capacity as commissioner of baseball. In his letter, on official "Baseball" letterhead, Landis responds to a fan inquiring about ticket availability should the World Series be played in Cincinnati (the Reds ultimately won the pennant). In part: "Dear Joe: Replying to your letter of September 7, if the World Series goes to Cincinnati, I'll be in a helluva fix about tickets, due to the fact that the club's seating capacity is relatively small and we have got to give the club a chance to take care of its season patrons. However (and this is for your own information), I will see how things turn out and drop you a line later on. With everything in the way of affection to you and your outfit. Truly Yours. It is signed "Kenesaw Landis" in black fountain pen. The letter (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal folds and is in Excellent condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
