Lot # 2016: 1939 American League All-Star Team-Signed Reunion Baseball with DiMaggio, Foxx, and Greenberg - JSA

Official National League baseball (Giles) signed in blue and black ink by eighteen members of the 1939 American League All-Star team. The signatures were obtained during a reunion ceremony held to commemorate the team on July 25, 1964 at Shea Stadium. This special ceremony was advertised as a "1939 All-Star Flashback." The signatures appearing on the ball include those of Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio (sweet spot), Hank Greenberg, Bob Feller, Luke Appling, Lefty Grove, Joe Cronin, Bill Dickey, Joe McCarthy (Mgr.), Ted Lyons, Roger "Doc" Cramer, Red Rolfe, George Selkirk, Rollie Hemsley (sweet spot), George McQuinn, Johnny Murphy, Bob Johnson, and George Case. In the 1939 All-Star Game, played at Yankee Stadium in New York, the American League defeat its National League rivals by a score of 3-1. With that victory, the American League won its fifth of seven Midsummer Classics played to date.
