Description

Collection of nine scarce ticket stubs issued for the Brooklyn Dodgers home games that were played at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey, during both the 1956 and 1957 seasons. In an attempt to put pressure on the city of Brooklyn to build the Dodgers a new stadium, team owner Walter O'Malley had the Dodgers play fifteen home games across the river in New Jersey. This lot consists of stubs from eight of the fifteen games that were played during those two years. Each ticket has the date printed on the front, which is provided in the composite below. This collection consists of the following home games: 1956 (5 tickets): May 16 vs. Cardinals, July 25 vs. Reds (F. Robinson and Snider home runs), August 7 vs. Pirates (Snider home run), and two August 15 vs. Giants (Mays home run). 1957 (4 tickets): April 22 vs. Cardinals, May 3 vs. Phillies, July 12 vs. Reds, and September 3 vs. Phillies (last Dodgers home game in Jersey City). The stubs, which measure approximately 1-1/4 x 2-1/2 inches, , range from Poor to Gd condition (two Vg). Total: 9 ticket stubs.
