Lot # 90: 1906 New York Giants Photographic Fold-Out Postcard with Mathewson, McGraw, McGinnity, and Bresnahan

Rare New York Giants "fold-out" postcard dating from the 1906 season. This is only the second example of this 1906 Giants "fold-out" postcard we have offered in the past 22 years. The front cover of the postcard features a photo of fans swarming the field at the Polo Grounds after a Giants game. The text along the base reads "Polo Grounds - New York Nationals." Opening the card reveals nineteen individual photos of Giants team members, which fold out accordion style on a long sheet (10 photos are on the front of the sheet, six are on the reverse, and two are on the interior back cover of the postcard). All the players are identified in print below their images, including manager John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, Joe McGinnity, Roger Bresnahan, Dummy Taylor, Hooks Wiltse, Art Devlin, and Mike Donlin. Two scoresheets are included within the photographic foldout. The National League schedule for the 1906 season appears on the inside front cover. Obviously, these postcards were sold at the ballpark, where a patron could score the game and then mail it to a friend. This particular example has neither been scored nor addressed. The postcard (5.25 x 3.5 inches; folded) has light toning, as well as a pencil notation on the back and a few creases to the exterior. The interior foldout is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall.
