Description

Exceedingly rare and unusual 1879 Buffalo Bisons cabinet card designed with small vignettes relating to the success of two games that Buffalo won during the 1879 season. Led by Hall of Famer Pud Galvin, the Bisons finished third in the National League ahead of Cap Anson’s Chicago White Stockings. Very little has survived relating to the Buffalo Bisons baseball team. This card is one of a series of similarly designed cabinet cards relating to the 1879 Buffalo Bisons, each featuring elaborate and artistic designs and detailed information about the players and games communicated in a comical manner. This is a very attractive example of one of the most interesting and unique cabinet-card sets of the era, produced to commemorate two of the Bisons' most successful games. This unusual and extreme rarity dates from the earliest years of the National League. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC, the postcard exhibits exceptional clarity and foxing on the reverse.
