Description

Outstanding complete set of 1972-1973 Topps basketball cards, consisting of 264 different cards. The 1972-1973 Topps set is very popular among collectors for its bright colors and funky text, both telltale signs of an early 1970s issue. The set is loaded with stars and Hall of Famers, including Pete Maravich, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and rookie cards of Julius Erving, Phil Jackson, George McGinnis, and Artis Gilmore. Twenty-eight cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (18) and SGC (10). PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT+ 8.5 (1 card): #42 Dandridge (SGC). NM-MT 8 (16 cards): #1 Chamberlain (SGC), 5 Maravich, 10 Haywood (SGC), 25 Robertson, 28 Thurmond, 45 White, 55 Silas, 92 Nelson, 100 Abdul-Jabbar, 110 Havlicek, 129 Reed, 130 Hudson, 195 Erving RC (SGC), 210 Brown, 218 Paultz (SGC), and 255 Erving AS. NM 7 (11 cards): #35 Bing, 44 Barry (SGC), 50 Goodrich, 73 Monroe, 97 Bellamy, 105 DeBusschere, 160 Checklist, 167 Cunningham AS, 180 Gilmore RC, 183 McGinnis RC (SGC), and 215 Cunningham. The condition of the 231-card unencapsulated balance is 47% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 42% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 11% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). Unencapsulated Keys: #32 Jackson RC (Ex+), 75 West (Ex), 163 Abdul-Jabbar AS (Ex-Mt due to centering), 168 Chamberlain AS (Ex-Mt), and 248 Checklist (Nr/Mt). An extremely attractive and mostly high-grade complete set of this popular 1970s Topps basketball issue, loaded with stars and Hall of Famers. The equivalent SMR value for just the 28 graded cards (factoring in the half grade at the lower whole-grade value) is $5,566. Total: 264 cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
