Rarely offered example of Doc Sage (Toledo, pose #397-1) from the N172 Old Judge series. According to the comprehensive book The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (1886-1890), commonly referred to as the "Old Judge Book," Sage is a particularly scarce subject in the entire N172 set and is listed as among the "Top 100 Scarcest N172s." Graded POOR 1 by SGC (submitted by REA), the offered example displays corner wear and evidence of album removal on the reverse. This is a very pleasing N172 example of Sage, which will be of special interest to advanced Old Judge collectors for its noted scarcity.
