Original unissued artwork featuring Gene Moore of the Boston Bees, intended to be used in the 1936 R327 Diamond Stars series. This artwork of Moore was created (but never used) by National Chicle to be included in its Diamond Stars series. The Diamond Stars set is highly prized by collectors in large part because of the beautiful artwork and art deco-inspired designs of the set. The detail and the geometric background designs of the offered example are exceptional. Artwork for card sets from the 1930s is exceedingly rare. Back in the late 1970s, material surfaced in the collecting world directly from the family of a National Chicle employee, which included approximately 30 original R327 Diamond Star artworks, approximately 25 National Chicle Football artworks, and approximately 100 additional artworks from several National Chicle nonsport sets (including R136 Sky Birds). The offered artwork originates directly from this historic find and is an exceptional example of original 1930s gum card artworks. As is the case with all Diamond Stars artworks, the artwork is on thick artist’s board, and measures 4-1/2 x 5-5/8 inches. Extremely clean, with sharp, bright, crisp colors. In Very Good condition overall.
