Description

Very attractive 50-card complete set of T220 Mecca Champions, plus three silver border variations and a duplicate of John L. Sullivan. All fifty-four cards have Mecca advertising backs. The T220 series features exclusively boxers and champion prize fighters of the era. Condition is 25% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a couple better), 58% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 17% lesser (including a couple that measure small and two trimmed). We have selected four cards for grading and encapsulation by SGC. Keys: Burke (Pr-Fr), Choynski (silver, Pr), Corbett (100/0 T/B, otherwise Vg-Ex), Dixon (Ex), Fitzsimmons (Vg+), Frayne (NM 7), Gans (NM 7), Jeffries/Sharkey (Vg), Jackson (Vg-Ex), Mitchell (EX/NM 6), Randall/Belasco (silver, Vg), Ryan (silver, Pr), two Sullivan (VG+ 3.5 and Vg), and Sullivan/Kilrain (Vg-Ex+). Compared to baseball cards of the era, these early boxing cards, which are at least as scarce, represent a particularly outstanding value. This is a very attractive complete set of cards from one of the most classic boxing-card tobacco sets of the early twentieth century. Total: 54 cards (complete set of 50 plus three variations and one duplicate).
