Description

Graded GOOD 2 by PSA (submitted by REA). Very attractive example of Ty Cobb's second-year card, from the extremely rare A. C. Dietsche Detroit Tigers postcard set (Series 2) issued in 1908. Originally produced by the Dietsche Postcard Company of Detroit to commemorate the Tigers' participation in the 1907 World Series, these postcards were also issued in two more series, in 1908 and 1909. The three series are distinct: Each is identifiable by a copyright year on the reverse and subtle differences to the front (notably the inclusion of a player's last name next to his image). The 1908 Dietsche Detroit Tigers postcard series is considerably rarer than the far more well-known 1907 Dietsche Tigers set. Even samples from the 1908 issue are rarely seen. The card features a crisp black-and-white image of Cobb batting, with modest edge and corner wear. The reverse is clean and unmarked. A few wrinkles and light indentations around the corners (likely from prior album storage) contribute to the assigned grade. This is a strong example of one of Ty Cobb's rarest and earliest cards.
