Description

Graded EX/NM 6 by SGC. This is the only example graded at this level with just two higher. Extremely attractive high-grade example of Babe Ruth from the W551 strip-card series. Originally issued in strips, these cards (and almost all strip cards) are often found with irregularly cut borders as they were cut by hand from the strips, as intended. Only ideally cut examples (which are few and far between) are awarded numerical grades by SGC (and PSA). The offered example is neatly cut, with light wear at the corners (weaker left-side corners), and a crisp profile portrait image of Ruth set against a red background. The blank reverse is entirely clean. Ruth's 1921 season was one for the record books, as he took the baseball world by storm with his prodigious batting feats. In addition to setting new single-season records for home runs (59) and RBI (168), Ruth also led the league in runs (177) and slugging percentage (.846) in powering the Yankees to their first pennant in franchise history. This is a superb, numerically graded, high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's classic 1920s strip cards and one that would be an outstanding addition to any Babe Ruth, strip-card, or prewar-card collection.
