Lot # 1652: 1960 Topps #77 Hank Foiles Unissued Color Variation

Extremely rare proof card featuring #77 Hank Foiles (Kansas City Athletics) from the 1960 Topps baseball set. While at first glance this card may appear to be nothing more than an example of the final-issue card, close examination reveals that it displays a difference that will be of great interest to proof-card collectors. The pink background color for the black-and-white photo was changed to red for the issued card. This hand-cut (by definition, as this card had to have been cut from a proof sheet) card is exceptionally bright and clean, with strong corners and a boldly printed reverse (touch of paper loss on the back). Example of the final-issue card is included for comparison. This is a very unusual Topps rarity that would be a significant addition to even the most advanced Topps collection.
