Lot # 1648: 1960 Topps #8 Bud Daley Unissued Color Variation

Extremely rare proof card featuring #8 Bud Daley (Kansas City Athletics) from the 1960 Topps baseball set. While at first glance this card may appear to be nothing more than an example of the final-issue card, close examination reveals that it displays a difference that will be of great interest to proof-card collectors. The strip of color along the bottom border (player's name, team, and position are printed) was changed to dark blue for the issued card. This hand-cut (by definition, as this card had to have been cut from a proof sheet) card is exceptionally bright and clean, with strong corners and a boldly printed reverse. Example of the final-issue card is included for comparison. This is a very unusual Topps rarity that would be a significant addition to even the most advanced Topps collection.
