Lot # 3292: 1909-1911 E91-B American Caramel Christy Mathewson PSA VG 3

Graded VG 3 by PSA. Extremely attractive example of New York Giants Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson from the 1910 E91-B American Caramel series. The E91 set is sometimes referred to as the "fake design" set because the company used generic illustrations, rather than actual likenesses, of ballplayers. The exact same drawing (with team change on the uniform) was used for two or three different players. Three series (A, B, and C) were issued for the E91 set based on the order of the checklist printed on back. The offered example is bright, crisp, and clean, with vibrant colors, excellent registration, and honest corner wear. The reverse is fairly clean with a checklist for the set printed in bold black ink. This is a very attractive example of key card Christy Mathewson from this interesting 1910-era caramel-card set.
