Description

Graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA. This is the only example graded at this level by PSA with just one higher. Rarely offered example of an M101-2 Sporting News supplement featuring Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. This sepia-toned premium set was issued with The Sporting News between the years 1909 and 1913. Each premium was issued on only a single day (August 5, 1909, in this case) and is dated in the upper right or left. Their method of issue and the thin paper stock on which they are printed make these unusual and striking premiums particularly susceptible to damage. This example has a flawless image of Mathewson. Downgraded due to several tiny tears along the bottom edge and a few small unobtrusive creases. This is a very attractive example that represents a relatively affordable opportunity to acquire a card-related Mathewson supplement dating from his playing days.
