Description

Rarely offered example of an M101-2 Sporting News supplement featuring Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. This sepia-toned premium set was issued with The Sporting News between the years 1909 and 1913. Each premium was issued on only a single day (August 5, 1909 in this case) and is dated in the upper right or left. Their method of issue and the thin paper stock on which they are printed make these unusual and striking premiums particularly susceptible to damage. This example has a flawless image of Mathewson. Graded POOR 1 by PSA, flaws include several edge tears and a missing bottom-right corner. Despite its condition issues, this remains a presentable example that represents a relatively affordable opportunity to acquire a card-related Mathewson supplement dating from his playing days.
