Description

The 1933 hard-bound edition of Who's Who in Baseball, which features beautiful studio portraits and full-page biographies of every Major League player, has long been hailed as one of the most attractive baseball books ever produced. Autograph collectors in particular took a special liking to the book because the player pages were ideally suited for acquiring signatures. Offered is the result from one successful request by an early autograph collector: a signed example of Joe Tinker's page. Tinker has signed the page in black fountain pen to the left of his image. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the page and graded the signature GEM MINT 10. Tinker was part of the Chicago Cubs' legendary double-play combination of Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance during the early 1900s, but wasn't elected to the Hall of Fame until 1946, which was 30 years after he retired. Tinker died in 1948, which gave Hall of Fame autograph collectors only a short two-year window in which to obtain his signature. As a result, Tinker's signature remains scarce today. The page (8-1/4 x 10-1/2 inches) displays a pair of clear tape repairs and a few light creases. Good condition overall.
