Bank check, dated May 20, 1922 and signed by Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and graded the signature MINT 9. The check, drawn on the Adirondack National Bank of Saranac Lake, New York, is made out to "Cash" in the amount of $50.00. Signed by "Christy Mathewson" in black fountain pen along the base. This is one of the finest Mathewson signatures we have seen on a check and one of the highest PSA-graded examples we have offered in the past 21 years. Canceled checks have always been highly prized among autograph collectors due to the inherent authenticity they provide for the signatures. As most collectors know, Mathewson's signature is rare because of his untimely death at the age of 45 in 1925. As such, his signature is by far the rarest of the first five Hall of Fame inductees to find on a check. The check (6.5 x 2.75 inches), which displays normal bank cancellation stamps and holes, displays a single vertical fold and light creasing. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall.
