Lot # 592: 1916 Cy Young County Treasurer Campaign Card SGC POOR 1

Rare promotional card (2.5 x 4.5 inches) issued by Cy Young in 1916 during his political campaign as "Republican Candidate for County Treasurer" of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. SGC has encapsulated the card and certified it as "Authentic." The card features a portrait photo of Young in formal attire, with his name, "Denton T. (Cy) Young" and the election date, "Election, Tuesday, November 7th," printed at the base. This is just the second example of this card we have ever offered, and we have seen only a few others at auction in the past 20 years. Although no year is listed, we have seen a different version of this card that lists the election date of "November 7, 1916" at the base. Unfortunately, our research has failed to uncover whether Young was successful in his bid to be treasurer. Graded POOR 1 by SGC, the card displays heavy creasing and soiling.
