One-page typed letter, dated August 7, 1953, signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Mickey Mantle in black ink. In his letter, on official "New York Yankees" letterhead, Mantle responds to a fan. In full: "Dear Mrs. Scott, Thanks very much for writing. It is nice to know that you and other fans like you are pulling for the Yankees. Also your personal interest in me is greatly appreciated. I hope that both I and the Yankees will play the kind of ball that will merit your continued support and interest. Sincerely yours, Mickey Mantle [signed]." The signature is a magnificent early example. Mantle letters are rare, and one from so early in his career is of special note. The vintage ink signature on this letter represents Mantle's earliest signature form, and differs greatly from his signature style in later years. The letter (7-3/4 x 9-3/4 inches; visible dimensions) displays two horizontal folds and a small hole at the top Yankees logo. In apparent Good condition. Matted and framed, together with a photo of Mantle (modern print), to total dimensions of 23.5 x 16 inches. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
