Scarce real-photo postcard capturing twelve members (plus two kids) of the 1911 Philadelphia Phillies during a barnstorming tour in Havana, Cuba. Notables pictured include Grover Cleveland Alexander, Sherry Magee, Fred Luderus, Billy Killefer, Hans Lobert and Otto Knabe. The team trainer standing in the top row third from left is Mike Dee. This was the first and only time the Phillies would conduct barnstorming in Cuba. All games were played at Cuba’s famed and historic Almendares Park. According to our a consignor, an advanced Philadelphia baseball collector, "this is the only photo from the Phillies’ 1911 Cuban tour I’ve ever seen." The postcard (5-3/8 inches x 3-3/8 inches) which has not been addressed or mailed, displays writing and light toning on the reverse. The handwritten period notation on the reverse reads “The 'Phillies'/Almendares Park/Havana Cuba/Nov. 9th 1911.” Graded FAIR 20 by SGC the card presents at a higher level than suggested by its technically accurate grade.
