Description

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Impressive mid-grade example of this classic Lou Gehrig card. One of the key cards from the 1926-1929 Postcard-back Exhibits set, this is one of Gehrig's most striking cards and is much appreciated by collectors for being so different in design from most other cards featuring his likeness. This classic Exhibit-style card set was actually issued by a small competitor of the Exhibit Supply Company. The postcard-format reverse includes the warning: “Not To be Used In Exhibit Machines.” This example is bright and crisp, with even wear on the corners, and light toning on the reverse. Several creases in the lower right account for the assigned grade His smiling portrait on this card (which is the very same as used in the W517 set) makes this one of Gehrig's quintessential cards and a favorite with collectors. An outstanding example of this scarce, unusual, and very substantial Gehrig card dating from the peak of his playing days.
