Description

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Incredible ultra high-grade example of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the W572 strip-card series. This is the highest-graded example ever evaluated by PSA out of a total of twenty-nine W572 Ty Cobb examples submitted to date (nineteen of which are graded "Authentic"). The 1923 W572 series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. Very few comprehensive baseball-card sets featuring 100+ players were issued in the early 1920s, and W572 is one of the few. This classic 1920-era strip-card issue includes many of the great stars and Hall of Famers of the decade. These cards were originally issued in ten-card strips and are often found with irregularly cut borders as they were cut by hand from the strips as intended. The card displays superb clarity and strong corners. The blank reverse is entirely clean. This is a stunning example of Ty Cobb's most classic 1920s strip cards and one that would be a worthy addition to any Ty Cobb, strip-card, or prewar-card collection.
