Graded GOOD+ 2.5 by SGC. Beautiful mid-grade example of one of Ty Cobb's true rookie cards, from the highly regarded H. M. Taylor Detroit Tigers postcard set issued in 1907. This card (along with the Dietsche and Wolverine News postcards of Cobb issued in the same year) is considered by many collectors to be Cobb's true rookie card. A number of other issues can also make claim to that important distinction. While we realize that the definition of what is a player's rookie card can sometimes be controversial and vary from collector to collector, the postcard issues of 1907 are certainly worthy of consideration for that claim, a distinction that is reasonably shared with several issues dating from Cobb's earliest days in the majors. This example has never been mailed. There is no writing on the postcard reverse. Honest wear to the corners and a small spot of paper loss on the bottom border. The reverse is mainly clean. The H. M. Taylor Detroit Tigers postcard of Ty Cobb represents an outstanding and perhaps overlooked value compared to most other early Cobb cards. This is an extremely attractive mid-grade example of one of Cobb's most elusive early cards and one that qualifies as one of his true rookie cards.
