Lot # 2797: Circa 1934 R78 World Wide Gum (Canadian Goudey) "Jungle Gum" Complete Set (48) Plus Wrapper

Presented is a very attractive complete 48-card set of the R78 "Jungle Gum" series issued by World Wide Gum Co. circa 1934. Each card pictures a beautiful scene of African wildlife. Condition is 14% Ex-Mt or slightly better, 65% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 21% Gd to Vg (including two lesser and two trimmed). Nine cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (6), SGC (2), and GAI (1). PSA Grading Composite: #5 (EX 5), 17 (EX 5), 23 (GAI EX 5), 29 (EX 5), 35 (SGC EX 60), 43 (EX 5), 61 (VG-EX 4), 63 (SGC EX/NM 80), and 65 (EX-MT 6). The set is accompanied by a rare original wax wrapper that grades Good to Very Good due to creasing and a small edge tear. Though the backs state that the set is composed of 192 cards, only 48 cards were ever produced. The first series of twenty-four cards are numbered 1-24; the second series of twenty-four cards were skip numbered between 25 and 71 (no doubt causing great confusion among kids collecting the set when issued). This is a rarely offered complete set of this popular nonsport issue. Total: 48 cards plus wrapper.
