Description

Presented is a near-complete set of one of the most elusive card sets ever issued: the 1936 R28 "Cartoon Adventures" series, consisting of 40 different cards (out of 48 in the set). This is a very rare set. Missing the entire 8-card 'Tarzan of the Apes' run for completion (#409-416). This near set is composed of subsets featuring Tailspin Tommy, Broncho Bill and Buck Rogers. Tailspin Tommy and Broncho Bill are represented by a subset consisting of one portrait and seven action story cards. Twenty-four cards (#425 to 448) are devoted to Buck Rogers. The Buck Rogers subset is highly prized by both science-fiction character collectors and nonsport card collectors. Seven cards (all from the Buck Rogers subset) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (6) and PSA (1). SGC Grading Composite: #429 (EX/NM 80), 431 (VG/EX 50), 432 (EX 60), 434 (EX 60), 435 (PSA VG-EX 4), 439 (VG/EX 50), and 443 (EX 60). The unencapsulated cards grade as follows by character: Buck Rogers (eleven Vg, four Gd, and two Fr); Tailspin Tommy (three Vg to Vg-Ex and five Fr to Gd); Broncho Bill (two Vg-Ex, five Vg, and one Fr). This is a very rarely offered near-complete set of this scarce 1930s nonsport issue and one that would be a welcome addition to even an advanced collection. Total: 40 cards.
