Many companies throughout history aimed the marketing of their products to catch the attention of children. Bread companies were no different, using advertising cards or bread labels with popular characters to sway buying decisions. Since arriving in popular culture, Disney characters, in particular Mickey Mouse, have always been at the forefront of advertising to children. Presented is a complete 96-card set of 1936 D52 "Adventures of Mickey Mouse" recipe cards. Each 4.25 x 2.75-inches paper-thin card shows a scene with Mickey Mouse, and several include Minnie Mouse and/or Pluto as well. The card backs have an advertisement for different brands of bread, and some contain recipes in addition to a bread company advertisement. The condition of the set ranges from Pr to Vg overall (averaging Fr-Gd), with 10% better. Many of the lesser grades are due to a small tear in the top or bottom border. Bread advertising backs consist of: Bamby (1), Kew-Bee (1), Liberty's Improved Buttercup (1), Jaeger's (2), Maier's (2), Peter Pan (2), Home Science (3), Wesley's (3), Myer's Dated (5), Travis (9), Butterfly (10), Long Butter Krust (17), and Bell (40). The set is accompanied by a "Mickey Mouse Recipe Scrap Book," an album designed to house the recipe cards, and its original mailing envelope. The recipe scrap book grades Vg-Ex, with moderate creasing and very minor soiling limited to the covers. The exceptionally rare mailing envelope features an image of Mickey Mouse in the upper-left corner, technically grading very modestly due to tears, creases, small missing pieces, and postal use (including a canceled 1.5-cent stamp and 1936 postmark). This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire this rare vintage Disney issue that presents much nicer than the modest technical grades. Total: 98 items (set of 96 cards, album, and mailing envelope).
