Lot # 2992: Nineteenth-Century Baseball Cabinet

Vintage baseball cabinet photo dating from the late 1890s. The formal studio photograph pictures the unidentified player in full uniform as he poses in a batting stance. The lettering "C & O" is visible across his jersey. Like most baseball cabinets from this time, the player remains anonymous, with the only clue to his identity or team affiliation coming from the photographer's credit stamp on the base of the mount: "E. F. Fischer - Charlottesville." The cabinet (6 x 7-7/8 inches) displays light rippling to the photo and a chip to the mount on the top edge. The reverse has moderate surface wear. In Fair to Good condition overall.
