Complete 1953 Bowman B&W 64-card set. The unusual Bowman B&W set is by far the scarcer of the two 1953 Bowman baseball issues. Condition is 31% Ex to Ex-Mt (mostly Ex), 62% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 7% lesser. Keys: #1 Bell (Vg+), 15 Mize (Vg-Ex), 25 Sain (Vg-Ex+), 26 Roe (Ex+), 27 Lemon (Vg-Ex+), 28 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt), 31 Woodling (Vg-Ex), 36 Piersall (Vg-Ex), 39 Stengel (Fr), 46 Harris (Fr due to spot of paper loss on reverse), 51 Burdette (Ex), 52 Branca (Vg-Ex), 60 Cox (Vg+), and 64 Hansen (Vg-Ex+). The 1953 Bowman B&W set gets less attention than the 1953 Bowman Color set because it is a smaller set and has fewer stars (and there is no Mantle) but in the "old days" of collecting, the 1953 Bowman B&W cards were far more desirable to many collectors, and were appreciated for their greater rarity, more so than in modern collecting times.
