Description

Complete 1953 Bowman B&W 64-card set. The unusual Bowman B&W set is by far the scarcer of the two 1953 Bowman baseball issues. Includes a duplicate of #60 Billy Cox. Condition is 33% Ex to Ex-Mt (including one better) and 67% Vg to Vg-Ex. Eight cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #1 Bell (Vg-Ex+), 15 Mize (EX-MT 6), 25 Sain (Vg-Ex+), 26 Roe (Vg-Ex), 27 Lemon (VG-EX 4), 28 Wilhelm (VG-EX+ 4.5), 31 Woodling (Vg+), 36 Piersall (EX 5), 39 Stengel (EX-MT 6), 44 (EX-MT 6), 46 Harris (Vg-Ex), 51 Burdette (Ex), 52 Branca (Vg), two 60 Cox (EX 5 and Vg), 61 (EX-MT 6), and 64 Hansen (Vg+). The 1953 Bowman B&W set gets less attention than the 1953 Bowman Color set because it is a smaller set and has fewer stars (and there is no Mantle) but in the "old days" of collecting, the 1953 Bowman B&W cards were far more desirable to many collectors, and were appreciated for their greater rarity, more so than in modern collecting times. This is a very attractive and consistent mid-grade complete set. Total: 65 cards (set of 64 plus duplicate).
