Description

The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a complete set of 1950 Bowman and over the years have consistently found it to be among the most elusive sets of the era. Includes three duplicates (#14, 68, and 84 Ashburn). Condition is 18% Vg-Ex to Ex (including a few Ex-Mt), 36% Gd to Vg, and 46% lesser (mostly Pr and mostly due to staple holes). Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Pr), 6 Feller (Pr-Fr), 8 Kell (Pr), 11 Rizzuto (Pr, with staple holes), 19 Spahn (Pr), 21 Reese (Fr), 22 Robinson (Pr), 23 Newcombe RC (Vg), 28 Thomson (Vg), 32 Roberts (Pr), 33 Kiner (Pr), 35 Slaughter (Vg), 37 Appling (Gd), 39 Doby (Pr), 40 Lemon (Pr), 43 Doerr (Gd+), 46 Berra (Pr), 58 Furillo (100/0 T/B, otherwise Fr), 59 Branca (Fr due to small spots of paper loss on reverse), 62 Kluszewski (Vg), 71 Schoendienst (Gd+), 75 Campanella (Pr), 77 Snider (Pr), two 84 Ashburn (Vg and Pr), 94 Boudreau (Pr), 98 Williams (SGC VG 3, submitted by REA), 112 Hodges (Pr), 129 Gordon (Vg-Ex), 139 Mize (Pr), 148 Wynn (Pr), 217 Stengel (Pr-Fr), 219 Bauer RC (Pr), 220 Durocher (Pr), and 229 Frisch (Vg-Ex). Relatively affordable sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this (let alone a hard-to-find 1950 Bowman set) always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that, to many collectors, represents the very best value. This is an attractive mixed-grade complete set of one of the most important and classic of all early Bowman issues. Total: 255 cards (set of 252 plus three duplicates).
