Description

Please note that the year listed in the printed catalog has subsequently been updated by MEARS, and a new LOA has been issued based on additional research into the style of the offered jersey.

Exceptional Boston Bruins road jersey, dating from 1972-1973, worn by one of hockey's greatest legends: Bobby Orr. Graded A10 by MEARS. During the 1972–1973 season, Orr delivered another brilliant performance for the Boston Bruins, recording 29 goals, 72 assists, and 101 points in 63 games. He won his sixth straight Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman and finished in the top five in overall points, an astonishing feat for a defenseman. This season is often remembered as one of Orr’s last fully healthy peak years, cementing his status as one of hockey’s greatest all-around players. Game-used jerseys from Orr's career are few and far between, with only a handful coming up for sale publicly in the last decade. Most recently, an extraordinary example from the 1968-1969 season eclipsed $209,000 at auction. The offered example is an outstanding original from the peak of Orr's career. The black-and-yellow durene jersey features the Bruins team logo on the front and the number "4" on the reverse and each sleeve. All numerals are appliquéd in yellow on white tackle twill. A "Wilson" label appears in the collar, with the size "50" written in black ink. According to the MEARS letter, the jersey is original as issued, with no alterations and heavy wear. From the first time Bobby Orr played professional hockey, it was obvious his influence would change the game forever. One of the all-time great defensemen, Orr showed that players at his position could become an offensive force as well. He played just nine full seasons but his legend was so great that he was elected into Hockey's Hall of Fame in 1979, the same year he retired. This is a remarkable game-used artifact that would be a worthy addition to even the most advanced collection!
