Description

Collection of 82 different cards from the 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life set. Sporting Life was a major competitor of The Sporting News in the early part of the 20th century. The Sporting Life set was issued in 24 series of 12 cards each, sold by mail for 4 cents per series. M116s are one of the most significant and substantial issues of the era and are considerably scarcer than their tobacco-card counterparts. This collection represents an opportunity to acquire a remarkable selection of mostly mid-grade M116 Sporting Life cards. Condition is 95% Gd to Vg (with a few slightly better) and 5% Pr to Fr. Majority of the cards are downgraded due to honest corner wear. This collection consists of the following: Adams (black back), Arrelanes, Barry, Bates/Philadelphia, Beaumont, Bell, Bergen, Bescher, Bradley, Bransfield, Bridwell, Bush, Byrne, Camnitz, Carrigan, Coombs, Delehanty, Devlin (black back), Dougherty, J. Doyle, Eagan, Elberfeld, Engle, Falkenberg, Gessler, Grant, Hahn, Hartsel, Hartzell, Herzog, Hoffman, Hulswitt, Karger, Kling, Konetchy, Krause, Leever, Leifeld, Lennox, Livingstone, Lobert, Lord, Maddox, Magee, McConnell/Boston, McIntyre, McLean, Merkle, D. Miller, M. Mitchell, Moren (black back), Mullin (black back), Murphy, Murray, Needham, O'Connor, O'Leary, Overall, Pelty, Pfiester, Phillippe, Purtell, Reisling, Reulbach, Schaefer, Schlei, Schulte, Seymour/N.Y., Sheckard, H. Smith, Stanage, Steinfeldt, Stone, Street, Sullivan, Summers (black back), B. Sweeney, Turner, Heinie Wagner, White, Willett, and Wiltse. Many collectors consider M116 to represent one of the era's most exceptional values. Despite being so similar in design to, and far rarer than, their T206 counterparts, they are assigned substantially lower values in price guides. This is a very pleasing group with many cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. Total: 82 cards.
