Lot # 2010: Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball - PSA/DNA

Official American League baseball (Harridge) signed in black fountain pen by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA/DNA (the autograph is graded VG-EX 4 and the ball is graded EX 5, for an overall grade of VG-EX+ 4.5). Based upon the stampings, this ball dates to the manufacturing period of 1932-1933. Despite the fact that the Babe was a prolific signer, the demand for single-signed Ruth balls has always far exceeded the supply. Those dating from his active playing career, such as this example, are especially desirable. While the ball displays scattered abrasions and spots of discoloration, all of the manufacturer’s stampings remain remarkably bold and distinct. The demand for Ruth single-signed baseballs continues to be one of the great stories of our hobby and fully attests to Ruth’s status as the greatest sports idol in American history. This is an outstanding example of that most coveted relic.
