Description

Presented is a near-complete set of 1950 Bowman baseball, missing only #22 Robinson for completion (offered individually in this auction). The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, as it was the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. Condition is 32% Ex to Ex-Mt (approximately two-thirds Ex and including a couple Nr/Mt) and 68% Vg to Vg-Ex (approximately two-thirds Vg-Ex). Three cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Vg+), 6 Feller (Vg-Ex+), 8 Kell (Vg-Ex), 11 Rizzuto (Vg-Ex), 19 Spahn (Ex), 21 Reese (Vg-Ex), 23 Newcombe RC (Ex), 28 Thomson (Vg-Ex), 32 Roberts (Vg-Ex), 33 Kiner (Ex), 35 Slaughter (Vg+), 37 Appling (Ex), 39 Doby (Vg-Ex+), 40 Lemon (Ex), 43 Doerr (Vg-Ex+), 46 Berra (Vg-Ex+), 58 Furillo (Vg), 59 Branca (Vg-Ex+), 62 Kluszewski (Ex), 71 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 75 Campanella (EX 5), 77 Snider (Ex), 84 Ashburn (EX 5), 94 Boudreau (Vg), 98 Williams (EX+ 5.5), 112 Hodges (Ex), 129 Gordon (Vg+), 139 Mize (Vg+), 148 Wynn (Vg+), 217 Stengel (Vg+), 219 Bauer RC (Ex), 220 Durocher (Vg-Ex+), and 229 Frisch (Vg-Ex). Attractive mid-grade sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this (let alone a hard-to-find 1950 Bowman set) always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. This is an extremely attractive and consistent mid-grade near-complete set (minus one) of one of the most important and classic of all early Bowman issues. Total: 251 cards.
