Description

Rogers Hornsby H&B signature-model bat ("H117") used by him as manager of the Cincinnati Reds, circa 1953. PSA/DNA has deemed the bat "authentic as described." The bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of heavy use along its entire length, including checking (grain swelling), ball marks, and green bat rack streaks. The model number is stamped into the knob. According to PSA/DNA, this bat was used by Hornsby in multiple capacities, including "coaching hitters, pre-game activities, and possible promotional events." Hornsby was arguably the greatest right-handed hitter who ever lived and is one of only two modern-day players to bat over .400 in a season three times (Ty Cobb is the other). His .358 lifetime average is also second only to Cobb's. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1942. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 33.7 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (corresponding sticker affixed to the handle). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
